Oh boy, guess what? Aly Michalka, one half of the pop-rock sensation Aly & AJ, is about to become a mom! Yep, you heard it right. She and her hubby, Stephen Ringer, who’s got some serious skills as a cinematographer, are all set to welcome a tiny new member into their family. Aly, who’s also known for lighting up the screen in “Easy A,” spilled the beans to PEOPLE, saying, “It’s been a really easy pregnancy, which I feel really lucky and blessed to have experienced.”
So, here’s a fun fact: Aly found out she was expecting last September. And guess what? This was right before she and AJ were about to rock out at The Greek Theater in Los Angeles. Talk about timing, right? “Our little one has been on stage with me across three states already and has even done some international traveling!” Aly gushed on Instagram. And here’s the kicker: Aly and Stephen are keeping the baby’s sex a surprise until birth. “We’re waiting to find out the gender cuz I’ve always loved a good surprise.”
Now, onto a little backstory. Aly decided to take a pregnancy test the morning before her big show last September. Why? Well, as she put it to PEOPLE, “I’m past a week being late, and I should just take the test.” And boom, just like that, she’s hit with the news. Imagine holding onto that secret with a massive show just hours away. She did spill the beans to Stephen right away (they tied the knot back in 2015, by the way), but she kept it under wraps from AJ to not steal the spotlight from their performance.
A few days post-show, Aly decides it’s time to let AJ in on the secret. Over dinner, she teases, “There was a special guest at the Greek that you didn’t know was there.” AJ’s all, “Who?” And Aly’s like, “There’s a baby,” pointing to her stomach. AJ’s reaction? Pure joy and excitement. And then, of course, the rest of the family got to hear the wonderful news.
Fast forward to now, Aly’s been sharing bits and pieces of her pregnancy journey on Instagram. From getting the nursery ready, to loading up on protein, hitting Pilates, and making sure she’s catching enough Z’s – she’s doing it all. Plus, she’s still finding time to hit the studio with AJ. “Somehow we’ve been able to still spend days in the studio writing music which hopefully finds its way into baby’s soul,” she shared. It’s clear Aly’s surrounded by a strong support system, making her hopeful about the goodness in the world.
