There is exciting news in the world of sports as Olympic runner Allyson Felix is expecting her second child with her husband, Kenneth Ferguson. The news was unveiled ahead of the Thanksgiving celebration with a statement expressing joy about the new addition to their family.
However, this was not all that the 11-time Olympic medal winner disclosed. Felix also gave details about the gender of her soon-to-be-born baby and the expected due date. Fans should expect to welcome a baby boy next April. On Instagram, the news was accentuated with a family photo, featuring their 4-year-old daughter Camryn, who held a letter board, which spelled out “Baby Brother April 2024.” This prenatal news broke just before Camryn’s 5th birthday.

Over the years, the gold-medalist has made use of her platform to advocate for maternal support, especially in professional settings. This was after her rocky relationship with Nike, her sponsor, after her preterm delivery of Camryn via emergency C-section due to severe preeclampsia. Felix returned to training soon after her birth and blamed Nike for pressurizing her and correspondingly reducing her earnings by a drastic 70%, causing a lot of friction. Speaking from her experience, she challenged Nike’s supposed support of women, claiming they failed her when she needed them.
She expressed her discontent with the prevalent attitude towards maternity, pushing Nike for a contractual agreement that she wouldn’t be penalized for underperforming in the months surrounding her childbirth. She aimed to defy the status quo and set a new precedent. The athlete pointed out that if she, despite being one of Nike’s top marketed athletes, could not secure such securities, then who could? The birth of her daughter, she shared, empowered her to fight for her beliefs.
