On revealing the birth his fifth child, the vocalist named him Brian Kainoa Makoa McKnight. However, he took to Instagram on a recent Friday unveiling a change in his son’s name to Brian Kainoa Makoa Jr. In an unexpected twist, he also altered his own name to BRIAN KAINOA MAKOA MCKNIGHT SR, matching his son’s. He made this announcement in his post saying, “To the world, with the release of my new album dedicated to him. JR. as I am also thrilled to formally declare the change in my legal name to mirror my legacy’s.” He further added, “My legal name is now BRIAN KAINOA MAKOA MCKNIGHT SR. ‘McKNIGHTtime LULLABIES’, the melodies of a father to his namesake available now!”
Some followers expressed disapproval of this alteration given that Brian already honored his first child, 33 years old, with the same name, Brian McKnight Jr. Reactions from the 54-year-old vocalist and his son in response to the criticism have yet to surface.
Besides his elder and youngest sons, Brian has three more children, Niko, Brianna, and Clyde, from previous romantic associations. Accusations of the hitmaker favoring stepchildren over his biological ones have surfaced in the past, bringing his loyalty as a father under suspicion.
