Katie Couric, folks, has just entered the grandparent club! Yep, the former TODAY show star’s world just got a tiny bit bigger. Her daughter Ellie Monahan and Ellie’s hubby, Mark Dobrosky, are now proud parents. “I am thrilled to have my first grandchild,” she gushed. And honestly, who wouldn’t be?
So, they posted this adorable pic from the hospital. There they were, Ellie and Mark, beaming with their bundle of joy. And guess what? The little guy arrived right on schedule, March 23rd, and they named him John Albert Dobrosky.
Now, here’s a sweet twist. The baby’s name is a heartfelt tribute. John, you see, was also the name of Ellie’s dad and Katie’s late husband, who everyone affectionately called Jay. Sadly, Jay passed away from colon cancer back in ’98. In her post, Katie spilled the beans on the name’s backstory. “He will be called Jay in honor of his maternal grandfather. Albert is after Mark’s paternal grandfather.”
But wait, there’s more to “John” than meets the eye. Over at Katie Couric Media, Katie shared that this name is kinda like a family tradition. It’s not just about her late husband but also her dad, John Martin Couric, Ellie’s uncle Johnny, and even Katie’s current husband, John Paul Molner. She joked, “The branches of our family are covered in J’s!!”
Oh, and there’s this super cute pic of Katie holding little John. She’s rocking a white sweater with “Gogo” stitched on it. That’s right, Gogo, not Gigi or Kiki (that’s her sister’s nickname), but Gogo. She picked it after a friend’s suggestion.
Remember when Katie went viral last December? She shared this video where she found out she’s gonna be a grandma. It was all Taylor Swift-inspired, with friendship bracelets and all. Ellie and her sister Carrie crafted this moment. Katie struggled to read the bracelet at first. “Brand, brandy, brandy, B, granny.” Then it clicked, and she laughed, “Granny to be.” Ellie’s confirmation, “I’m pregnant,” left Katie in joyful shock. “You are? Wow!” And when Ellie asked if she was freaked out, Katie, laughing, said, “No!”
