Rumer Willis, the daughter of Hollywood stars Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, became a mother this year. In April, she and her partner, Derek Richard Thomas, welcomed their first child, a baby girl named Louetta Isley.
Just as her daughter turned 8-months-old, Rumer decided to share the inspiration behind her baby’s unique name. The revelation came during a Q&A session she held on Instagram.
A follower asked about the origin of Louetta’s name. Rumer responded by posting a picture of herself kissing her daughter. She explained, “Her name is a mix of things I love.”
She elaborated, “I have always loved the name Lou. I was thinking of it for both a boy or a girl. But when we found out she was a girl, we came up with Louetta.” The name is a blend of their favorite singers: Lou Armstrong, Etta James, and the Isley Brothers.
The Willis family had a tough year in 2022. Bruce Willis was diagnosed with aphasia, which later progressed to a more severe condition, frontotemporal dementia. The Die Hard star has since retired from acting.
Rumer has been open about the struggles following her father’s diagnosis. Last month, she posted a throwback picture with her dad, captioning it, “Really missing my papa today.” She also shared that her daughter Louetta has some of her grandfather’s traits. “Whenever she’s got a stern discerning look on her face, I just see Bruce Willis,” Rumer said.
With Louetta’s first Christmas approaching, Rumer spoke to PEOPLE about her plans for the holiday season. She aims to recreate the magic she experienced as a child. “We always do stuff together at Christmas and everybody has a stocking,” she said. She expressed her excitement about seeing her daughter experience her first Christmas.
Rumer also believes that she inherited some of the most magical parts of herself from her parents. She hopes to pass these traits down to Louetta. “I love watching them with her,” she concluded.
