At the recent Met Gala, renowned tennis champion Serena Williams, accompanied by her husband Alexis Ohanian, revealed that they are eagerly awaiting the arrival of their second child. Recently, the acclaimed athlete, holder of a staggering 23 Grand Slam titles, disclosed the gender of her unborn child in the wake of a combined baby shower and gender reveal celebration.
In a footage shared on her YouTube channel, Serena can be seen encompassed by loved ones at the festivities. The soon-to-be mother-of-two predicted a baby girl, as illustrated by her choice of apparel – pink trousers and a crisp white t-shirt, with her baby bump visibly showing. Her anticipatory anxiety was evident as she expressed her lack of a back-up plan if the baby turned out to be a boy. A cake was intended to serve as the embodiment of the gender reveal, however, Alexis decided to add an element of surprise. Alexis chose a cake with a yellow filling in a playful attempt to tease Serena and the couple’s first born, four-year-old Alexis Olympia, making them believe this was the gender reveal for ‘Jelly Bean’ – a sweet nickname the couple have given their unborn baby. Alexis’s prank was aimed at generating a laugh from Serena, although he voiced concerns over her potential reaction.
As expected, Serena responded by playfully smashing a piece of cake into Alexis’s face after slicing it and revealing the yellow filling. Alexis then clarified that they would indeed be revealing the gender of Jelly Bean in a unique and memorable way. He signaled the DJ to play music and asked everyone to look up as a drone illuminated the sky with the ultimate reveal: Girl!
