Sofia Richie, model and media personality, is expecting! She spilled the beans in a Vogue interview. Her new hubby, Elliot Grainge, and she are thrilled to be welcoming their first child. Oh, and did I mention Sofia’s the daughter of Lionel Richie, the singer?
But wait, there’s more. Sofia and Elliot aren’t just having a baby. They’re having a baby girl! Sofia’s pretty into the whole gender reveal thing, you know, the stuff you see on YouTube and TikTok. She said, “We had our OB text my assistant Becca [our baby’s gender], and we bought two party poppers: one blue, one pink. She left out the one with the correct color inside, and Elliot and I popped it together.”
They were betting on a boy, so it was a real surprise. Sofia always wanted a daughter, and Elliot’s pretty stoked about having a girl too. She said, “I think it’s so typical for boys to want boys, but he has a lot of sisters. It was really sweet. He’s very sensitive.” As for the due date, it’s a bit up in the air. But Sofia says their little girl is growing pretty fast.
Sofia found out she was pregnant pretty early on. She was about four weeks in and on a trip to Milan for fashion week. She was feeling awful, but chalked it up to jet lag. When she got back to LA, she was planning to go to a concert. She said, “I kind of knew it was going to be a boozy night, and I was a few days late on my period, and I wanted to be generally safe, so I took a test.”
Elliot didn’t think much of it. They’d been trying to have a baby, so Sofia taking tests was nothing new. But this time, there was a faint line. Sofia called Elliot to get more tests. She said, “He was so excited. We spoke the whole way on the phone. And when he came home, he’s such a sweet guy he always wants to protect my emotions and expectations, so he kind of sat me down and said, ‘If these are negative, don’t be upset. Our moment will come.’ When we turned over all three tests at the same time they were all positive. He was so excited, and we both cried. It was crazy and overwhelming and so hard not to scream it from the rooftops.”
Sofia and Elliot got hitched less than a year ago. It was April 2023, and they said their vows at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes, France. They were just friends when they first met. But when things turned romantic, Sofia knew Elliot was the one. She said, “It was a feeling of safety It was the feeling of really being appreciated. I knew when we started dating that he was my husband. It wasn’t a ‘Do you think one day he’ll propose?’ It was like, ‘This is my husband — 100 percent.’ I felt this love for him that I never felt ever in my life.”
